Claw Theater

curtain1.jpgWhat light from yonder window breaks? It is the glow from the stage of Claw Theater!

Visit this enchanting WWW creation and enjoy productions of Peter Pan and other children’s classics. Meticulously painted sets, gorgeous costumes, and mesmerizing feline thespians await you. You can also read reviews of the productions or write your own.

Says Queen Midnight, founder of Claw Theater:

From the moment the first kitty made shadow birds on the walls of a prehistoric cave, we have had theater. From the Greek playwright Catistophanes to the Roman Catullus, from Shakespeare (who, of course, was of the feline purrsuasion) to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats,” the theater has brought endless joy and enlightenment to rich and poor, young and old, kitties of every color, spot, patch and stripe.

Adding to the cultural experience are “Masterworks of Feline Art” (an art exhibit) and a collection of posters, exquisite as this one.

Complimentary tickets are available and make great gifts for birthdays, graduations, and other special occasions.

The Actors’ Group

Filed under: theatre — by peridot @ 10:31 am

The following is from the website of The Actors’ Group, a Honolulu-based acting company.

streetlight.gifWe started in 1993 as a small ensemble of actors who had only one thing in common—a passion for acting. As the epitome of the starving artists troupe, we were weaned on experimental productions based on improvisational exercises, had our performing bones fortified through originally written plays, went on to gorge ourselves on the off Broadway Pulitzer Prize winning material of Mamet and Shepard, learned to drink theater’s life blood, which is Shakespeare, and even ate a little dessert by acting out dramatic renderings of poetry. TAG has been, however varied, all about the love of acting, and that continued passion today has led us to evolve from a performing arts curiosity to becoming, on the Hawaii theater scene, probably its best kept secret.

At the 40-seat Yellow Brick Studio in Kaka‘ako, you’ll find some of Hawai’i’s finest actors performing work that is seldom seen anywhere else, in a theater where the actors are close enough to touch the audience (and sometimes do), and where the audience is close enough to see the actors’ sweat and tears. Since 2000–2001, our first official season when Brad Powell joined us as Artistic Director, TAG has received 51 Po‘okela nominations and won 39 awards, including a 2001–02 special Adjudicator’s Award for Innovative Theater!

As a member of the audience, as an actor or director, as crew, volunteer or donor—become part of TAG this Season!
